ABOUT

The Bigfoot Cult is the debut novel from multiple Emmy-winning filmmaker Jeff Cvitković, whose career has spanned Netflix, HBO, ESPN, and the History Channel (for whom, yes, he did direct a Bigfoot show).

Equal parts satire and psychological thriller, The Bigfoot Cult is a gonzo, cinematic ride through Hollywood dreams, cult belief, and the desperate search for meaning.

Chris Pettibone, a failed skateboard prodigy turned reality-TV hack, has been fired from four shows in a row (think doves flying into wind machines and housewives throwing spicy shrimp in each other’s eyes). Now broke, forty-two, and desperate, he’s stunned when legendary producer Morgan Hunter offers him one last chance: direct "The Astral Ocean," a documentary about hippies who believe they’re about to make contact with Bigfoot.

For Chris, it’s absurd. He doesn’t believe in cryptids—and he still carries childhood trauma from a brother who abandoned him in the forest. But Hunter sweetens the deal: finish the project, and he’ll bankroll Chris’s dream film and connect him to fertility specialists—something Chris and his wife desperately need after two painful years of trying.

Plunged into a bizarre world of aging mystics and sword-wielding warrior yogis, Chris finds reality starting to fracture: a Bigfoot encounter caught on camera, a wife who becomes a believer, and creeping paranoia—is he the one documenting this world, or the one being documented?

The novel will appeal to readers of Christopher Moore and George Saunders, as well as fans of TV shows like Black Mirror and Twin Peaks.

The Bigfoot Cult has the opportunity to be a breakthrough best-selling novel—and it’s also a cinematic world with tremendous IP potential to be developed into a premium series. With its ensemble cast, surreal humor, and thriller-driven twists, it’s ready for the page and the screen.
